Start-ups

After 3 months at this company, I have come to realized that my entire career was pretty mundane and routine. There is so much pressure in a start up company to get the product out at the earliest possible time, busy looking for protential customers while the money reserve is slowly depleting. Funny thing is that each time when there is a break through in the product development, a bug was fixed, all that feeling of accomplishment overshadowed the long hours of hard work. You are like riding an emotional roller coaster, constant ups and downs.
I heard an ad on the radio the other day on my way to work. The Subway Sandwich is having a all-you-can-eat sale. Their sandwich is good by the way, but AYCE ? How much can you really eat ?
Today is the first day of the Chinese lunar year, its the year of dog. My father and my sister's whole family came over last night for the new year's eve dinner. I spent last years dinner at my parents senior apartment. We really missed her this year.
A historic landmark is been demolished today. Below the overpass used to house a strange combination of used book and electronic stores for 32 years. The electornic store was the product during information ago bloom 15 years ago. Computer parts, multimedia equipment. The used book store was there from the beginning of it history. Many students and scholars had spent their times roaming thorugh the book shelfs looking for the treasures. Now the overpass is making way for a subway to be built under the street. I have uploaded the photos I took today to my photo web page. Take a look.

Salon or Barber Shop

Out of convenience and too cheap to pay $30 for a hair cut, I go to a barber shop at the Taiwan Air Force Headquarter compound near home. This barber shop sits right by the PX there. They serve to both military personnel and civilians. I had good cuts from them before but yesterday, I got a dorky straight military hair cut from this lady.
After the New Year holiday, people exercise at the track had increased a bit. I even saw a couple with their personal trainer at the track. The guy was telling the wife/girl friend that they need to commit to fitness, be healthy. I wish them luck. Too many people had good intension at start but did not follow through. While working late, I struggle from time to time to make that commitment.
Here is an irony. Most modern countries had eliminated malaria for many years. There are only few mosquito species that transmit malaria. Their larvae must live in clean, none polluted water. The reason we have eliminated those mosquitoes was because we polluted the water they live in. So, for those countries that still have malaria, don't feel bad. At lease your country still have clean, pristine water sources.
