Carnation, Mother's Day

It has never crossed my mind what is carnation had anything to do with mother's day. Why are we celebrating mother's day. If you want to know something, who do you call? "Google !!" I found out the history of mother's day and answered my question about the carnation. All I remember was that when I was in grade school, on every mother's day, we wore a carnation on our shirt. Pink for those who's mother is still alive and white for the kid's who's mother has passed away. This year for the first time in my life, I should be wearing a white carnation. On mother's day last year, we took my mother to her favorite restaurant for a Cantonese Dim Sum lunch. With all her favorite food in front of her, she did not eat much because of her cancer condition. Shortly after that, she was admitted to the hospital. She passed away a month later.
I wish all the mother in the world a happy mother's day. I will be thinking of my for a long time.

Meatless or less Meat

I like the taste of meat too much to become vegetarian. Based on several reasons I am cutting back the consumption of meat. Borderline of blood cholesterol level, and high blood pressure. Weight gaining is also a consideration but I don't think eating less meat can play a major role but every little thing will help. So, I have been on less meat diet for two weeks now. My cooking has becoming creative using only vegetables and soy based product. From a book I read (yes, this "less meat" diet idea did not come from nowhere), In our daily meals, we should eat a mixed vegetable according to its color - red, green, white, black. Eat them raw if possible, if you have to cook them then shortening the cooking time and lower the heat so it can retain its nutrient. I am not a big fan of raw vegetable other then lettuce so I use either steam or stir fry.
Many organic food stores have opened in my neighborhood. This is still a new industry in Taiwan, I don't believe there is a strict classification on what is "organic". So the products can vary a lot. For now, I will just have to put my faith on that sticker on the packaging. Another thing to look out when shopping for food is the expiration date. Make sure its checked closely.
Now the Summer is just around the corner. We are starting to feel the warmth in the weather.
