Lanyang Museumn

(Lanyang Museum)

I can't remember how hot the Summer was last year, then I realized that I was in US the whole time. It has been scorching hot this past week. Record heat was pushing close to 40 degrees C (104 F) in Taipei city. I did not want to go outside, did not feel like moving around in the house. I feel guilty about having the AC at home running all day so I try to spend some time at the mall of shopping center. It gets boring very soon there and they knew people come in were just to cool off so there were not many free seating areas provided.
I saw the news on the new opening of Lanyang museum (Chinese only link). The admission is free during the test run period. My nieces are on summer break, good time to take them to explore new stuffs other then what is in their iPhone. btw, they glued to their iPhone all day long. Its also a good time testing out my new GPS navigation device, a Garmin 1350.

(Main lobby of the museum)

The museum building was designed according to the local geological shape, cuesta, i.e. slope. " is a ridge formed by gently tilted sedimentary rock strata in a homoclinal structure". There are major three parts of the display, a permanent display of the nature and life of the eastern flat land of Taiwan. Rich with rice fields and ocean catch. A special exhibit hall and children discovery museum. The children museum is still under construction. The museum also collaborates with the local communities to preserve the culture of the local natives.
